Claire’s Story
I started my career with C.H. Robinson in the Kansas City office as a transportation representative right out of college and have been here ever since. My Marketing major didn’t provide much experience in the transportation industry, but I had great mentors that helped me develop the tools to get me started. Most of our training is real hands-on experience, which for me was the best way to learn. Once I got the basics of transportation down, the key was learning how to build strong relationships.
Over the past 10+ years, I’ve taken on several challenges that allowed me to grow with the company. I’ve been a supervisor of one of our van divisions, started a new flatbed “sub-branch,” and eventually was promoted to a management position within our Kansas City branch. My current focus is Employee Development as well as helping grow our LTL division. Through every position I’ve been involved in sales, customer and carrier relationships, training, negotiating, and problem solving.
Every day, you are faced with new situations that make you think outside the box, whether it’s figuring out how to get the impossible load moved for your customer, keeping your carrier’s equipment moving, or negotiating the perfect rate between the two. I continue to learn something new every day which keeps things fresh.
C.H. Robinson is very supportive of individual growth and helping you carve your career path. I was lucky to be part of a networking group that was sponsored by our corporate office. It was a chance to form a bond with other employees across the company in similar roles and share experiences we’ve had. Our mentors were Vice Presidents of the company, and at one meeting we had a private dinner with our CEO! I don’t know of many companies where you have such access to the executive level.
